Dampness in our homes is caused by too much moisture in our atmosphere (high humidity), which when cooled, reaches a dew point and condenses on the coldest surface it can find.

This moisture is increased by our everyday activities such as cooking, showering, bathing, laundry and even breathing.  

Portable gas fires are also notorious for producing vast amounts of moisture in our homes. Adequate ventilation in bathrooms and kitchens will extract much of this excess, but the remaining moisture will condense on windows and walls and will be absorbed by porous surfaces and fabrics. 

Black or Toxic Mould is a slimy, greenish black substance which can result in a very serious health risk.
While toxic black mould is less common than other moulds, it is far from rare.
